When we first started to stock up on little baby necessities when I was pregnant, Daniel and I were in agreement on one thing: we didn't want fluff. We didn't create a baby registry. We didn't decorate a nursery, but rather a little corner of our (only) bedroom in our West Loop loft. We didn't know the gender of our baby, so only a few white onesies hung in a section of our closet. We simply didn't have the room for all of the little extras that everyone else seemed to have; but aside from the lack of space, we both rank clutter high on our list of household pet peeves. Thankfully, we have friends that kind of get that about us and we were given some of the best little essentials. From little white kimono style shirts for the newborn days to Sophie the giraffe, I was so thankful for friends and family who had done this baby thing already and shared their must-have essentials. Here's a round up of the things that make our lives easier:
Mara is a bit sleep challenged. The girl loves her five-minute cat nap. But if I put her in the Dock-A-Tot? I get at least an hour’s worth of work done around the house. I love that she can lounge, nap, and tummy time in this wonderful little co-sleeper. It's a pretty accessory, too!
I. Love. This. Stroller. We get more compliments on this stroller than anything else we own (including our baby), to which I usually say, "You have no idea." A stroller and a car seat all in one, lightweight package.
I had no idea about the magic of the Solly baby wrap when my friend Elizabeth gifted us one. Mara absolutely loves being snuggled up against me while I go about household chores.
It was important to me that my diaper bag not look like… a diaper bag. I didn’t want a bag that screams, “I may or may not have a dirty diaper in my side pocket.”
I love how simple this little tub is. It sits perfectly in every sink in our home, then folds up easily and stays out of sight. Mara loves bath time, and I can’t help but wonder if it has anything to do with how comfortable she feels in tub!
I don’t use these blankets for swaddling my little Houdini- she requires something more heavy duty for sleeping. But I use these blankets for pretty much everything else- a burp cloth, a stroller shade, and on one occasion, as a makeshift scarf when Mara shared her lunch with my shirt.
